Former NFL Tight End Darren Waller Announces Retirement

After eight seasons, Pro-Bowler calls it a career

Former American football tight end Darren Charles Waller, born on September 13, 1992, has announced his retirement from the National Football League (NFL). The 30-year-old made the announcement via an 18-minute YouTube video on Sunday, January 29, 2023.

Waller has played for nine seasons in the NFL, most notably for the Oakland Raiders and the Las Vegas Raiders. He was a key member of the Raiders' offense and established himself as one of the top tight ends in the league. Despite a leg injury limiting him to 11 games in 2021, Waller signed a three-year, $51 million contract extension with the Raiders in 2022.

In his retirement video, Waller expressed his gratitude for his time in the NFL and stated that he is ready to pursue new challenges. He thanked his family, coaches, teammates, and fans for their support throughout his career.

Darren Waller's retirement leaves a significant void in the NFL and will undoubtedly serve as the end of an era for the Las Vegas Raiders. His contributions to the game will be remembered, and he will always be considered a formidable force on the field.
